What Our AC Diagnostic Actually Checks

Refrigerant charge (superheat / subcool). Manufacturer specs live in a narrow band. Overcharged, undercharged, or contaminated with air — each has different symptoms and different fixes. We measure the actual pressures at the correct ambient conditions and back them into superheat and subcool numbers.

Capacitor and contactor. The dual-run capacitor is the single most common failure point on a residential AC. A weak capacitor won't always throw an error code, but it'll cause the compressor to draw excess amps on startup or fail to start entirely. We test capacitance in microfarads, not by look.

Condenser coil and outdoor fan. A dirty condenser coil forces the system to build head pressure higher than design. We check for restriction, fin condition, and airflow across the coil. The outdoor fan motor gets an amp-draw check — a motor pulling too many amps is on its way out.

Blower motor amp draw and static pressure. Half the "AC problems" we're called on are actually airflow problems. We check total external static pressure and blower amp draw against nameplate specs, and we look for restriction in the filter, coil, and duct return path.

Electrical, controls, and safety switches. Contactor pitting, low-voltage transformer condition, condensate float switch, and thermostat calibration all get verified before we call the diagnostic complete.
